Last Thursday March 25, 2010 I had the oppurtunity to meet Robin Givhan who is a well known fashion editor for the Washington Post. Earlier that week I was invited to attend Robin Givan's book signing at Lord and Taylors in Chevy Chase from one of my fashion professors and I responded with a quick, YES! The book signing was hosted by fashion group international and Robin Givhan answered many questions about her book on Michell Obama's first year in the white house. Ms. Givhan was very excited about telling us her opinions and her take on Michelle Obama's clothing chioce's through her first year as the first lady. Robin Givhan also talked about Mrs.Obama's yellow dress worn on inauguration. The yellow dress was made from designer Isabel Toledo, which is Marymount Universitys designer of the year for Portfolio in Motion 2010. Many questions that were asked were centered around the recession and how that affected Mrs.Obama's clothing choices. Ms.Givhan answered by say that Michelle Obama new when and where to wear lavish and moderate price clothing. Ms. Gavin showed us pictures in her book where on many occasions Ms.Obama wore clothing from J.Crew, but there were and are times where Mrs.Obama is expected to were fancy clothing. For an example at the State Dinner, fancy is expected. Robin Givhan was extremly interesting to listen to and made everyone feel welcome with her personable attitude. Overall I had a great time at this event and am honored to have particpated in an event at this calbur.
